Manual Treadmill Workout

I promised I'd let you know how my little manual treadmill is working out...

It's great. I think I'm getting even more of a work out than with a motorized treadmill. For some reason a manual treadmill works my core (abdominals, sides and even back muscles) more than any other treadmill I've walked on.

I love being able to watch my daughter play, or watch my favorite TV show at night and get a good workout in at the same time. So far I've been working about 1.5 miles "almost" every day.

With the weather getting nicer I'll be walking more outside again too. Take advantage of these early spring days and get out there. Take your kids or the dog for a walk, invite a friend to join you or go for a stroll around the block with your spouse after work.

Let's get moving and lose those extra pounds.

Speed Up Your Metabolism

As you eat less to lose weight, your body goes into survival mode and your metabolism slows down. A slowed down metabolism means you are burning less calories. Yikes!
Not exactly what you were trying to accomplish, right. After all the idea behing losing weight is to burn more calories to get rid of all that unwanted body fat.

There are some easy ways to speed up your metabolism. One of them you are already incorporating by walking off the weight - EXERCISE. Any type of exercise gets your heart rate up and also speeds up your metabolism not only while you exercise, but for hours afterwards.

The other strategy that seems to work really well for me in combination with walking every day is to eat several small meals throughout the day. My body doesn't feel starved so my metabolism doesn't slow down.

Give these strategies a try and speed up your metabolism.

I'm finally getting a Treadmill

I'm so excited; my new treadmill will be here on Tuesday. It will make getting all my steps in much easier because I can go for a walk right here in my spare bedroom.

A treadmill makes adding steps to your daily walking very convenient. I like being able to walk while I watch the morning news, listen to an audio book on my favorite MP3 player or even reading a magazine.
If you have kids in the house like me, finding the time to go for a brisk walk each day can be a challenge. A treadmill will allow you to get a few hundreds steps in at a time. Take a quick walk while your baby naps, or your toddler is busy playing with blocks. You’ll get your workout in and are still close by if you are needed.

Counting Steps for 01-24-06

Wohoooo....I reached my goal yesterday. I ended the day with 8,023 steps.
It feels great to be back on track and walking again. If you'd like to join me, post your daily steps as a comment.

I am planning on walking 8,000 steps per day this week and then work my way back up to 12,000 steps which seems to really do the trick for me when it comes to weight loss.

Talk to you tomorrow,

Found my pedometer - reporting steps again

I'm finally back in the swing of things. I put on my pedometer this morning and took of walking :)

Since I haven't exercised much the last few months, I'm starting this week with a daily goal of 8,000 steps. Hopefully I'll be back to 12,000 steps within a few weeks.

So far I'm at 7,302 steps for the day. I'll post my final steps for the day tomorrow.

Healthy Breakfast and Lunch Recipes Added

I am finally getting back in the swing of things. I've been walking during my lunch and am watching what I eat a lot more. I've come across quite a few yummy recipes and have added them to the recipe section. My personal favorite is the banana breakfast burrito. Banana and peanutbutter rolled up in a tortilla makes for a great breakfast treat.

Oh...I almost forgot. If you enjoy breakfast smoothies, I have created a breakfast smoothie ebook with my friend Christine Steendahl. You can download it free at http://www.healthymenumailer.com/articles/

Now I'll just have to dig out my pedometer and keep track of how much I walk each day.

Talk to you soon.
