Foods To Promote Weight Loss

Is there such a thing as weight loss foods? You have been told that to lose weight you need to consume less calories than you burn. But that's only part of the story. What types of foods we eat also makes a big difference when it comes to losing weight. I feel sure you have heard that you should stick to low-fat foods, but there are some other rules that are just as important when it comes to weight loss food.

Weight Loss Foods Rule 1 - Fresh Is Best
Our bodies are not designed to consume processed foods, they are designed for fresh, natural ingredients. Our digestive systems have evolved over many years; preservatives and artificial chemicals have existed for a comparatively short amount of time. The foods our bodies digest best and use most efficiently are unprocessed and natural. This is why it is important to eat food made from the freshest ingredients. You should also try to eat some of these foods raw, since cooking can destroy vitamins and active enzymes in fruits and vegetables.

Weight Loss Foods Rule 2 - Don't Forget About Dairy
Recent studies have shown that eating dairy daily helps burn more fat and calories. Incorporating low fat dairy products into your diet helps you lose weight faster than just cutting calories. A good way to get enough dairy is through low-fat cheese, milk and of course yogurt. Yogurt makes a perfect portable snack and is already portioned out for you, making it easier to not eat too much. Yogurt also contains good bacteria that helps improve your overall health.

Weight Loss Foods Rule 3 - Think Low Sugar
Foods high in sugar can send your body on quite the roller coaster ride. When you eat sugary foods, your body’s response is to immediately release insulin to lower your blood sugar to a normal level. With high-sugar foods, your body can overreact to glucose levels and produce too much insulin. This lowers your blood sugar to a point that makes your body crave more food to get blood sugar levels back to a normal level. Your body accomplishes this by making you hungry again much sooner than low sugar foods. Instead of sugary snacks, choose foods higher in protein and fiber. These foods absorb more slowly, making you feel full longer and avoiding high sugar spikes.

Weight Loss Foods Rule 4 - Spice It Up
Spicy foods are a dieters best friend. You will eat quite a bit less when you are having spicy food. . Some studies suggest that appetite suppression is due to capsaicin, a chemical found in many spicy foods. Others attribute this effect to strong flavor of these foods being less palatable. Incorporating a little spice and heat into your food is easy. Just sprinkle some spices like chili powered, cumin or curry on your favorite dishes. Of course you can also add foods that are naturally spicy such as peppers to your dishes. One note of caution - salt is not a spice and should be used sparingly.

Of course exercise and eating less are an important part of losing weight, but  following some of the rules listed above may just give you the boost you need to finally shed those extra pounds.
