Running For Weight Loss

Running Is A  Great Way To Speed Up Weight Loss

Running is a great way to lose weight. You can burn up to 1000 calories if you run 10 miles an hour. This makes running one of the fastest and most effective ways to burn those extra calories. Before getting started there are a few things you need to know about starting a running program.. Here are just a few tips to help you out and get you started on the right foot.

Running for weight loss isn't just about cutting calories. You should also change what types of food you eat. Your body needs the right fuel when you are running, otherwise your body will start to metabolize muscle mass to keep you going instead of burning extra fat. A good rule of thumb is to get about half of your calories from carbohydrates. Some of those should be in the form of fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

One third of your diet should come from protein. Don't forget that fresh nuts are a great source of protein and also contain plenty of fiber. Don't forget to also include just enough healthy fat such as cold pressed olive oil or the fat found in avocado or peanut butter in your diet. While your body will get some of the fat it requires from reserves it does require a fresh supply to function properly.

Now let's talk about your actual running workout. Start with a warm-up routine that includes some stretches as well as some walking before you start to run. This helps loosen up your muscles and cuts down on the risk of injury. Just as important as a warm-up is a cool-down period. Slow down to an easy jog, or walk to give your body a chance to slow down. Another round of stretching is also in order.

In case you do get an injury while running for weight loss, make sure you take it easy for a while to give your body a chance to heal. It may be tempting to run through the pain, but this may prolong the injury. This is very different from the soreness you will feel when you first start running. This type of small pain is normal when you first start running and in this case running through it is a good idea.

If you haven't been running much lately or are a beginner, start out slow and easy yourself into running for weight loss. Start with short, slow runs and gradually work yourself up to longer runs and running at a faster speed. Eventually you want to run as far and as fast as you can to burn the most calories, making sure you still stay at a level you are comfortable with. You want to challenge yourself, but not overdo it.

These are just a few tips to get you started on running for weight loss. Go out there and get started on your road to a slimmer and fitter you.
